Revival Tea Academy: Black Tea (Flowery Orange Pekoe)
Today at Revival Tea Academy we are talking about our Flowery Orange Pekoe Black Tea. If you go to a grocery store and find a BlackTea it's probably going to be a Pekoe or some sort of a Pekoe. The FloweryOrangePekoe is very important when we talk about our BlackTea, but also when we talk about our entire range of teas. That's because it's the grade of tea that we import. As you're looking at a tea plant, and you work your way up, it's going to have large leaves at the bottom and as you work your way up the plant there is going to be little tiny buds on top; those are what's known as the Flowery Orange Pekoe. This is the only part of the tea that has all of the properties and health benefits that tea is famous for and it is also the least acidic part of the tea. When we're talking about a Black Tea it's going to be fully oxidized, White Tea is unoxidized and green tea is semi-oxidized.
Let's talk about the taste and how to you make a cup. First we'll take one teaspoon of
Black Tea per eight ounces of water. If you're using a tea bag that will suffice as well. Next we'll pour 212 degree water (water to a boil) over our tea leaves. Then set a timer for 5 minutes. Once the timer is done we'll pour this over our hand mesh strainer. If you're using a tea bag or tea ball now would be the time to remove them. Taking a sip: it is very smooth has a very slight sweetness to it. This is a tea that we use to flavor a lot of our teas with. Such as our Chai, Earl Grey and Mango
Tea to name a few. It acts as a great base but on its own it's also a very delightful cup. Our
BlackTea is available in both loose leaf and in tea bags here.
